According to recent reports, Xiaomi Auto is pursuing an ambitious strategy of launching three all-new electric vehicle (EV) models simultaneously, rather than waiting for the next major innovation. Xiaomi appears quite determined to create a complete product line touching every key segment of the automotive market: a family SUV, a high-speed performance vehicle, and a top-of-the-line luxury sedan.
Family-Focused Flagship: YU9 SUV
The first of the trio is the large SUV model known internally as the YU9. This vehicle is poised to become Xiaomi’s flagship model for families. At over 5.2 meters in length, the YU9 is enormous, meaning it’s even longer than the Mercedes EQS SUV. Its interior design allows for seating for six or seven people, making it an ideal option for large families.
To combat range anxiety, Xiaomi is integrating an advanced range-extended EV (EREV) system into the YU9. This setup promises pure electric, clean driving for everyday use, as well as the ability to cover long distances without worry.
The YU9 targets established large premium EVs, directly challenging rivals such as the Li Auto L9 and Aito M9. The seriousness of this model is evident in the recent personal participation of Xiaomi founder Lei Jun in extreme cold and high-altitude testing in the challenging Pamir Plateau of Xinjiang. This rigorous testing level indicates that the family-focused YU9 is in its final stages before mass production.
Pushing the Limits: The YU7 GT Performance SUV
Xiaomi is also pushing the limits with the high-performance YU7 GT, built on the existing YU7 platform. This model is designed for one purpose: peak driving performance. The development team is spending intense time perfecting the chassis tuning, ensuring the suspension and steering are as sharp as possible.
They are also focusing on pushing the limits of the electric drive system and advanced thermal management to keep the motors cool during high-stress driving. The YU7 GT has been spotted numerous times undergoing rigorous testing on the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife track in Germany. The company expects the fast SUV to be a pioneer in its expansion into the European market, positioning it against heavyweights like the Tesla Model Y Performance.
Representing Top-Level Luxury: SU7 L Executive Sedan
The premium trio concludes with a focus on top-level executive luxury in the sedan category. The company is developing the SU7 L, an extended, top-segment version of the current SU7. Spy photos reveal a significant extension behind the B-pillar, providing extra space for rear passengers.
The SU7 L is expected to be a true “land yacht,” exceeding 5.2 meters in total length and a wheelbase of 3.1 meters. This massive size and increased interior space position the SU7 L in the high-end executive transport segment. Xiaomi is targeting the most discerning buyers by positioning this sedan between the well-known Porsche Panamera and the more exclusive long-wheelbase Panamera Executive models.
The simultaneous development of the YU9 family SUV, the high-performance YU7 GT, and the luxurious SU7 L sedan comes at a critical time for Xiaomi. By covering these three key segments simultaneously, the company ensures there’s a Xiaomi option to consider for almost every type of new car buyer.
